June 4 2015

Here is a list of events that will be taking place at Historic Fort Wayne, Detroit, during the Summer.  The events will be interesting and the Fort is a great place to visit.

June 13 & 14 Colonial Living History

Though Fort Wayne wasn't built yet, there was still a lot happening in and around Detroit during America's Colonial period. Come to Historic Fort Wayne June 13th and 14th to enjoy life as it was lived as our country was founded. This event is a great lead up to the Independence Day celebration we share as a country the next month!

Military and Weapons displays both day.

Artifacts from the DHS will be on display.

View an early medical display.

Visit the camps to interact with Living Historians and see camp life demonstrations.

Admission is free! On-site, secured parking is $5.00/car.

Guided tours of the Fort and site are available for $5.00/person.

July 11 & 12 Medieval Days

The HFWC is thrilled to welcome a medieval event back for it's second year. Whether it's Lords, Ladies, Knights, Squires or Serfs that attract your attention, meet them all at our Medival Camp. See how people lived, ate, camped and fought.

The Fort will be open an extra hour each day. This event is July 11 and 12. Hours of operation have been extended to 9am to 4pm. Admission is FREE! (donations are welcomed and accepted). On-site, secured parking is $5.00 per car. Guided tours of the Fort are available each day at 11am and 1pm for $5.00 per person.

Sept 12 & 13 Civil War Days

Civil War Days is the annual Civil War Living History hosted at Historic Fort Wayne. Since the Fort saw it's first service to our country during this conflict, it is fitting that this is an annual event

John and Barbara Angus will be going to one day each weekend if you want to join us.  We will be going on June 14 for the Colonial days and will know other dates closer to the time.  Come and join us as the Fort is very interesting as well as Historic.

Today I received this letter from Virginia Horvaths daughter:

Email Address: dsemion@gmail.com

Subject: Thank you, and ...

Message: I just saw the memoriam page for my mother, Virginia Horvath, and tears are rolling down my checks. So wonderful to read all the comments. I have the whirling dervishes painting in my home. Also, thank you for installing the tile at the Center.

I have many of her supplies - brushes, books, etc., and need to find a loving home for them. Maybe some of her friends would appreciate her things.

Your organization was a big part of my mom's life. Thank you for your friendship and inspiration.

Congratulations to Janet Grant and Pamela Sayre who each sold one of their pieces of art at the "Art for the Spirit" exhibition which was on display at Oakwood Hospital.

Many thanks to all the artists who entered works for this exhibit.  It was a great show, in a prime site and there was plenty of positive feedback about it.

Individual artists within The Artists Society of Dearborn are always welcome to submit art for consideration for future shows.  If you wish to do this then contact me, John Angus, and I will let you have all the details for submitting your art.

Within the Oakwood system there are 13 galleries so they are always looking for new art.  The exhibits run for 12 weeks and change in January, April, July and October.  You do not need to submit the actual art, just pictures by Email and details of the art and yourself.

It is with great sadness that we have to announce that Janet and Kathys studio is a complete loss.  I went over on Saturday and found that the roof was gone as were all the floors.  The firemen on scene said that all the contents were totally destroyed.

Not only is loss of the studio devastating but even worse is the loss of all of their great art that was stored there.

Every one concerned with the Artists' Society wishes them all the very best for the future and feel sure that you will recover from this and come out even stronger than you already are.
